ART04- Hansaviertel.

Op. cit. p. 36. of the entire floor plan revolving around a space. In this case, the living room is the void that is filled with content by the relationships between people, which sums up the most archaic feeling of the home understood as a place for meeting and symbolic belonging." To the southeast of the previous building is the one designed by Vagó (23) consisting of 59 dwellings in an elongated prism of 7 floors and an attic, on a ground floor of accesses and spaces for installations. It is organised using 3 vertical nuclei of 2 dwellings per landing and, in addition, those at the ends incorporate a studio in the centre. It is one of the blocks with the greatest spatial richness, as it has a height of one and a half storeys in the living area of some of the dwellings, a solution similar to Denys Lasdun’s dwellings at 26 St. James Place in London in 1958, and as Flores states10: "His intention was to create as wide a variety of types as possible within a regular building, and 16 different types of one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom apartments were built. Twenty-four flats have a double-height room, showing an overall concern for variation of interior spaces that is frankly interesting." Developing so many different types for only 59 dwellings may seem excessive, with some small variations between them. For example, the difference between 10 and 16 is that the former has a slope and the latter does not. Several models have double circulation through a “cupboard-furniture” that separates the bedrooms from the day area, caused by the presence of the passage of installations from other levels. The size of many hallways is surprising, between 7 and 10 m2 when most kitchens are 6.9 m2 in size. The interplay of volumes on the west façade produced by the terraces of the one-and-a-half storey areas is interesting, contrasting with the flatness of the west elevation, which is resolved in the cladding by using grey, white, blue and beige. The Gropius building (24) is an elongated volume consisting of a ground floor for communal spaces and bicycle parking, 67 flats distributed over 8 floors and a penthouse. It is organised using four two-flight staircases with the particularity that the lift is located on the intermediate plateau of the staircase, a common solution in those years, but not used in Hansa, which obliges the 10 FLORES, Carlos.
