En cada caso, la intervención se adapta al Every work of architecture arises in a context, within a social, cultural and artistic environment. And the work of the TdB Architects studio is a faithful result of what was called the School of Barcelona, in a broad sense. From a formal and constructive point of view, it is a work that finds its roots in the technical vision of Gottfried Semper in the mid-nineteenth century, with the delimitation of the four basic elements of architecture (the hearth, the embankment , the roof and the cladding), with its emphasis on physicality and materiality, and with its certainty of the influence of the various factors of the environment on the shape of the details, the fabric of the fabric. And it was the art historian Heinrich Wolfflin who argued about the possibility of a history of art without the names of the artists, explained in terms of the vision of each era, its sense of form and composition. In this affiliation to a School, the studio’s work is in line with Catalan architects such as Francesc Mitjans, Pere Llimona, Antoni Bonet Castellana, Manuel Baldrich, Antoni de Moragas, the first stage of Martorell, Bohigas, Mackay (MBM) and , above all, Carlos Ferrater, with whom Juan Trias de Bes projected and carried out some works before beginning his independent stage.1 Viewed from the perspective of a three-decade trajectory, this ethical affiliation to a School continues to predominate in the work of TdB Architects, far from seeking personal stamps, eluding style, with the desire to thoroughly understand the needs, desires and possibilities of clients and users, thinking essentially of the quality of the spaces, the presence of natural light, the rationality of the proposal, and a very precise materiality, which is based on the sincerity of structures, materials and construction details (following John Ruskin’s lamp of “truth”. RESTORE This fidelity to the context has made them specialize in restorations of naves and palaces. The TdB studio itself is in an old rehabilitated workshop in Sarriá: a relaxed setting where industrial structures coexist with modern work facilities; all white, full of natural light and with vegetation; a whole manifesto, a declaration of principles. The city is already done and what TdB Architects contributes is the transformation and improvement of existing structures, sometimes baroque palaces, such as Palau Moxó in Ciutat Vella, or modernist corners, such as Casa Burés, in Eixample Cerdà. In each case, the intervention is adapted to the architectural type, to the Josep Maria Montaner THE MATERIALITY OF ARCHITECTURE. RESTORE, INHABIT, WORK LA MATERIALIDAD DE LA ARQUITECTURA.
